Cate Morales (owner)
a native of the Washington D.C. area,
moved to Tucson in 1998 to attend the
University of Arizona. While completing
her undergrad in business she was
introduced to Pilates by a friend who
needed someone to practice on while
training to become an instructor. Cate
immediately noticed, among many
changes, a difference in the shape of
her body as well as a new strength in
her weak and often sore low back from
muscle imbalance. She was introduced
to Suzy Rosin, the original Ariella, and
under her wing Cate began the Pilates
certification program through Romana’s
Pilates.
During the last year of college she was able to commute to New
York and L.A. to complete her 600+ apprentice hours. She was
certified in May 2004 and opened Ariella, a pilates studio soon
after. She continues her education today by working with master
teacher trainers around the country. She is incredibly proud of the
studio she has built and grown. Cate makes sure that she and her
teachers adhere to the same belief, that teaching Pilates only after
ascertaining certification through very comprehensive study is what
makes the studio so successful. The friendly, interesting and
dedicated people that she gets to work with day in and day out
makes all the hard work she has put in worth it. To have trained
with the best teachers in the world, to have gained so much
knowledge and to be able share it with others so that they make
positive, sustainable changes to their lives is why she does what
she does.
Lori Jernigan
Lori Jernigan grew up on a farm in
Kansas. She has a B.A. in Public
Relations from Kansas State
University. Fitness has always been
an interest and after the birth of her
first child she taught aerobic classes.
It was after the birth of her second
child that she found Pilates. She
started taking a mat class at a local
gym and soon wanted to know more
about the method. Her search
brought her to Romana’s Pilates. She
did her apprenctice hours here in
Tucson with Cheryl Miller and at True Pilates NY under Sari Mejia
Santo, Romana’s daughter and Dari Pace, Romana’s
granddaughter. In June of 2006 she earned her level 5
certification. Upon completing her certification, she began working
at Ariella, a pilates studio in the mornings when she is off of mom
duty. She says teaching Pilates is the easy part of her day.
After experiencing first-hand the profound difference of a purely
Pilates exercise program, as well as observing the changes in
those she's worked with, she chose to continue in the health and
fitness field working solely with Pilates.
A teacher at heart from the beginning, Alma has also been a
school teacher, both in traditional (public and private) and
Montessori environments. She enjoys the dynamics of teaching
and learning that occur in both the classroom and the studio.
Alma Moodie
Alma Moodie has been in the
health and fitness field since
1982. As an AFAA- and ACE-
certified instructor, she has taught
aerobics, water aerobics, and
been a Personal Trainer in the
U.S. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In 1995, she began her Pilates
apprenticeship in Seattle, working
with Dorothee Van der Walle at
Robert Leonard Pilates Studio
and Capitol Hill Pilates Studio
(now Metropolitan Pilates). She
was certified in 1996 by Romana
Kryzanowska.
Barbara Frisch
Barbara Frisch was born and
raised in Germany. In 1991 she
received a B.A. in Horticulture
and Landscaping while at the
same time studying Social
Sciences. Eventually it was time
to expand life’s experience and
this took her to Johannesburg,
South Africa where she lived for 6
years. She moved to the U.S. in
2002 and lived in Seattle for 8
years. Her most recent move has
brought her to Tucson where she
is happy to become a “desert rat”
along with her husband and cat
Bonito.
Her introduction to Pilates came when she was recommended by a
friend to check out Pilates as a remedy for her low back and
shoulder pain from working as a professional gardener and
horticulturist for so many years. She took the advice, and in the
2002 she started to train with Lori Coleman-Brown. After
becoming certified in Seattle in 2005 by Romana Kryzanowska and
Sari MejiaSanto she immediately began teaching at Pilates Seattle
International and continued to hone her skills by participating
regularly in Continuing Education seminars. Her main focus in
teaching is to carefully observe her client’s individual needs. As
they reveal the way they need to be taught she chooses to be
tactile, verbal, visual or a mixture of all.
Movement of all sorts has always been a big part of Barbara’s life.
She trained in gymnastics and rhythm gymnastics, studied Jazz,
Modern, Improvisational Dance and Ballet Techniques. Her most
prominent sports were volleyball and swimming. Other movement
disciplines include Tae Kwon Do, Yoga (Iyengar), Feldenkrais and
Tai Chi. She was a specialized Fitness Instructor at a sports club
in Germany teaching people who were recovering from coronary
diseases how to continue exercising after being released from
rehabilitation. In her spare time she enjoys knitting (perhaps not
so much anymore!), reading, drumming, music, cooking and being
out in nature.
